Hello I replaced both fuel filters on my 2003 as I have in the past, primed the engine with the ignition key a few times, than started my truck. It ran good at idle for about 30 seconds than died. It has never died before or missed a beat in 157,000 miles. I primed the engine again with the key a few more times now it won't start and my batteries went dead after a while of trying to start the engine and priming with the key..
So now I am charging the batteries back up. Going to take a while so any ideas what to do now???
Could I have air in my system and how to get the air out? Do i have to loosen up injectors???
Fuel filters are Ford OEM
Sounds like a simple matter of retracing your steps. More likely a problem with the primary filter install. If everything is put back correctly and you primed the system it should start. Hate to say it but you have to get back under there. Also check the water separator drain plug for sucking air if you drained that. Check the oring on the drain plug.

Well my fuel filter was loose under the drivers seat.I could see it was loose with my flash light..... I I remember I was a little concerned turning the plastic cap as I did not want to break it. So I tighten the fuel filter than removed the engine fuel filter and turn the key on for a second. I watched all the air bubbles come up from the bottom of the engine fuel filter reservoir. I removed some of the fuel from the reservoir and primed again. i did that about six or seven times, I tighten the engine fuel filter than prime again with the key this time a few more times. The diesel truck than started right up! and ran good.
Thanks for the update. Glad you got it fixed. Some of the instructios for changing the filters omit lubing the big o-ring on the primary filter cap. I think this makes it extra sticky going back in if you dont lube it. Anyway thanks again for reporting back because that helps others down the road.
