In dash navigation mod

I'm new here, and I must not be able to figure out the search que, because I found nothing when I tried, and I'm certain this has been a thread before. So please excuse my ineptness in finding one. I am looking to replace the factory satellite radio with an in dash double din unit with navigation. I have a couple of quotes from shops on the mod, but when I went to Crutchfield to check on units, the web site would not recommend any. It said replacing my factory radio was not recommended, as the weather apps are part of the factory unit? Has anyone else had this issue? Can the factory be replaced? I have a 2016 F250 XLT that I am slowly turning into a Platinum in terms of features. I already have replaced the seats with leather, put retractable running boards on it. Now want to upgrade the factory radio for an in dash system. Thanks for the advice and help.

Do you have an 8" Sync in your truck right now? If so, I can help you upgrade that unit to one with Nav. What needs to be done will differ depending on if it's a Sync 2 or Sync 3, if you've got a Sync 2, I'd definitely recommend going to the Sync 3, it's navigation is a lot better and it supports Android Auto and Apple Car Play.

I have no idea what Sync it is, as i have never used it nor the bluetooth. I have a Sync port to the right and below the radio, with a USB receiver on top and a plug receiver on bottom. Does that help? It is a standard radio, with satellite, and a CD player.

Are your leather seats heated and cooled? On the factory heated/cooled leather aftermarket nav becomes difficult because aftermarket doesn’t support controls for their operation. But sync 3 will....

So does this enable Navigation for a truck not equipped with it? I have a 2015 F-350 Lariat.

That process no longer works and hasn't in a while. Ford closed the loophole on as built data.

It works on the Sync 2, not the Sync 3.

Both have an 8" screen. Can you post a picture of your screen turned on? The Sync 2 has the home button on the bottom middle, the Sync 3 has it in the top left.

This is the 3

Your truck has Sync 2. Only the 2017+ trucks got Sync 3.

Thank you. So the above mentioned Forscan and SD card mod should work?

Thank you. My home is in the middle/bottom so Sync 2. So that mod should still work?

So I did this mod today and it worked! My truck now has navigation for the cost of a $35 SD card and about an hour of my time ( note I already had Forscan and the OBDII adapter ).
