Got a Motorcraft filter from the dealer, opened the box and it looked like this. It is rubbed through the white part of the filter, the yellow layer is fine. Other side looks the same.
Should I be running this filter? I wanted to take it back to the dealer but they were closed on the day I was changing the filters and I needed my truck that day so I put it in. Have put ~1000mi on it so far.
Too late to return it. He already put it in service. That being said, really no problem there. The outer cover has hundreds of small diameter holes through, certainly something happened during manufacturing or shipping but the small spots missing aren't going to change the function of the filter. IMO
Little late now to take it back since it's installed. These fuel systems are super expensive to fix if something goes wrong, it's not worth taking the chance. I would be replacing it ASAP.
