Changed oil and fuel filters today. After removing the top side fuel filter I noticed it was distorted somewhat. Then when I went to install the new filter it didn’t seem to go in. Pulled it back off and noticed this little plastic piece. There is one in the new filter and one in the old filter. I can’t tell if there was an extra one in the new filter, if it came out of the old filter, or if it’s supposed to go in the bowl somewhere? Never really noticed before.
I've never seen that plastic piece before when changing my fuel filters. That top filter should fit easily without the twisting that occurred. Looks like something that might be an adaptor for another application. Is it a Motorcraft/OEM unit?
Yes it's Motorcraft. That plastic piece is identical to a piece that is on the filter inside the bottom recess where it fits on the standpipe. I'm thinking maybe it was a production issue and an extra one got thrown in there? Just not sure if the extra one was in there with my last filter or if it came out of my new filter. I've never seen my filter twisted like this last one so it makes me think it has something to do with this extra piece.
