I've got a 91 f-250 diesel... The ignition switch had gotten sloppy, ie I would have to turn the key a bit after starting to get the turn signals to work... I replaced the key barrel assy and it tightened it up but now I have to turn the key, against the spring preload to get power... If I put the key in the run position, no power... It will start but if I release the key back to the run position it dies... I'm guessing that something is not adjusted or broken... Can someone give me a run thru of what I would need to fix or trouble shoot the problem... Didn't know if I needed to pull the steering wheel to adjust or repair... I can follow directions well but I've never been into the assys under the steering wheel... Is this something I could repair myself or do I need to take to my local mech... I was wanting to repair myself, for money reasons but don't want to damage anything in the process...
Thanks for any help and/or opinons…
Kevin
the key cylinder turns a "rack" that pushes a rod that goes down the column to the ignition switch.
the switch is held to the column by two bolts, i think 7/16 wrench to loosen them. there is adjustment slots on the switch.
the switch is on top of the column, roughly above the brake pedal.

Tom, thanks very much for your help... I had to replace the switch as when I was feeling for the adj bolts, the top half just came off... It took a few tries to get the rod into the right location in the switch but finally got it together and running correctly...
Thanks again for all yalls help...
