Ignition Help

I have an ignition problem that I could use some help tracking down. Truck had been starting fine. Key was always a little hard to turn. Then one day when the key was turned the selenoid would not kick the starter over. However it would if jumped across the terminals with a screw driver. A few days of this then when the key is turn I got no lights (idiot lights), fule pump didn't prime, so it would not start. Replaced the ignition switch and in the process somthing happened to the key switch. Now it turns very freely, with one finger, and does not spring back to the run position. But I am back to having to jumper the terminals on the selenoid. My questions are, is the key switch bad since it will not spring back, is it the selenoid now or could it be an adjustment with the iginition switch? Or maybe the neutral safety switch and if so how to test it.

Thanks
Frank

The key switch is connected to the ign switch by a pot metal actuator and then a rod that runs down the column to the ign switch. It is likely that the actuator in your column is broken. Unfortunately you have to pull the steering wheel and the column shroud to get to it. Tilt and non-tilt are different.
temporarily you could undolt the ign switch from the column under the dash and operate it manually untill you get it fixed.

The rod that runs down the column into the ignition swith still functions properly. Well atleast it moves when the key is turned. I have adjusted the ignition switch to all possible locations and still have the same result. Currently I have a pushbutton rigged up to actuate the solenoid after the key is turned on. Works fine but is not desireable at all.
