Hello All. I have an 01 F350 XL Superduty. It has a 7.3. I recently bought/rescued the truck. It has been neglected and I am going through it. The one issue I am having trouble with is the speedometer. I feel like I have read most of the posts out there and I am at a place where I need to trace the wire from the VSS to its next point of contact.
The speedometer bounces. As we increase speed it continues its bouncy behavior but does increase. I would guess it bounces in a 20 mph range and will increase this range as I speed up. The abs light is on. I replaced the VSS sensor on the differential and nothing changed. I opened up the wire wrap and checked the wires from the VSS to where it meets the harness at the frame and everything appears to be in good condition. I do have a leak coming in under the dash that drips out on the passenger side under the dash when raining that I have not addressed yet (I mention that bc I have heard that some windsheilds have leaked on controls under the dash. I believe there is a procedure for checking the wiring at the cluster but I can find the post I had initially found.
Anyone have any recommendations and would love a wiring diagram on what the VSS is connected too. Thank you.
Have you pulled the cluster out? There’s a foil like material that makes contact with the cluster, there may be an issue there. Just do NOT pull indicator off the dial!

Hey Colorado350. I did pull the cluster in search what the issue might be. The foil that you are referring to? Is this the greenish tinted circuitry that the indicator lamps screw/plug into on the back of the cluster? I did look at that pretty closely for any obvious damage or cracks to the circuitry and did not find any.

Yes, exactly. Put the following into a Google search:7.3L powerstroke speedometer bouncing/jumping
A bunch of threads pop up, looks like others have had the same problem.
Hello All. Wanted to share an update and request further assistance: I went looking for damaged wires in some reported common areas. I removed the drivers side battery box and air filter box to access wires. Checked all looms from the connectors circled in green that routed under the battery box to the ABS unit behind the drivers side headlight assembly. Could not find any issues.
Disconnected the harness that contained wires from the rear differential VSS at the green circled area. Disconnected rear differential VSS and jumped the plug and checked the wires for continuity (good) and continuity to ground (there was none-good!) forgot to check continuity of the two wires without the jumper to see if they could be shorted to each other. I also checked the ground strap under the passenger side floor boards (good). I am wondering if the abs control modules can create this situation?
