Instrument Cluster?!?!
Instrument Cluster?!?!
I have been having problems with my instrument cluster on my 2006 F-250. The speedometer will be working fine for a while, then next time I look down the needle is stuck at 30, sometimes more, sometimes less. Then, later, it will be working fine again. I don't know if it is getting physically stuck against the backing on the cluster or if it is internal. It seems to do it much more often in this colder weather. Does anyone know how to fix something like this, it is driving me nuts. I talked to ford and they want me to send the cluster into them for repair for a small premium of $450.
Thanks in advance!

I've heard of the speed sensor on the diff failing and causing the speedo to read 0 intermittently, but I've never heard of one that's hanging up on 30 MPH.
Unfortunately I think your dealer is correct. Does your odometer move appropriately when this happens? For example when you're going 60 MPH you should travel one mile in 60 seconds, does your odometer reflect this when your speedo is acting up?

Do you have access to a GOOD scanner? You need to watch the MPH
live data and that will tell you if it's the sender or the speedometer.
You can even do that with a Scanguage II and they are handy to have anyway.
ScanGaugeII : Linear Logic - Home of the ScanGauge
You can get them at Autozone also for about $160.00

I already know that it is the cluster. I do have a SCT Livewire that tells me my actual speed. I currently use this as my speedometer in cases where my analog cluster fails. I heard of a couple people sanding the backing of the cluster between the needle and the base. I personally was thinking it was more like an electrical issue because it doesnt hang up on a particular place all of the time. I just didnt know if anyone else ran into this and was able to do small repairs on the cluster like people have done with the ficm. I was hoping that I can just solder something and relieve the issue.
It could be s easy as a broken trace on the flexible structure that all
the wire traces are on. Also check the solder points some times then get
micro-cracks and when they open you loose the gauge. Just re-solder the
joints. If it's a cracked trace they make a special pen that will bridge the
gaps. You just sort of put it on like from a sharpie but it's silver like.
The trick is finding any breaks, You have to look at all the traces with
a good high power magnifier of at least 10X. Once you find it. Fix it, test it.
