How to for kill switch...

I'll be back on the road soon with my '64 F100, and would like to rig a kill switch for some added protection when parked.

6 Cylinder, 3 speed manual...all stock.

Yeah, I'm a rookie mech, but I can solder and follow steps...with a little practice.

Any hints or links would be appreciated.

All you really need to do is put a toggle switch inline with the hot wire that goes to the coil so it doesn't allow the ignition to get spark. Hide it under the dash or in the glove box somewhere. There will be a stud on the ignition switch labelled I for ignition just put it inline with that, open the circuit no power, close the circuit power to complete path and allow truck to start.

You may also wish to hide the switch in plain sight.

Get a small push-type on/off switch with at least a 10 amp rating.

Gut your lighter socket.

Mount switch in the lighter socket, then just push in the lighter before you start, and push again when you wish to kill the ignition.

I met a guy with an old Chevy truck and he converted the lighter to be the switch. Push it in, as you would to get it hot, and what it really does is complete the circuit to start the truck.

You could ground the negative side of the coil, the side the points are wired to.
With it to ground you also get no spark.

Besides if someone was to hot wire, power from battery + to coil + the truck would run bypassing your kill switch, not so with the negative side to ground.

Could add 2 switches and do both.
