So, my windshield is leaking and it's messing with the GEM. So I want to replace it. It has a small bullseye so I figure I might as well get the whole thing replaced rather than just a reseal. I had read that if I get a super duty windshield that it will be a Carlite, not a chinese windshield (from Safelite). Is there any truth to that?
Have no idea on the source of the glass, but I had my windshield replaced last year due to a leaking seal (and corroded GEM) and have been completely satisfied. Parts, labor, and general cleanup of the windshield frame in preparation for the new seal was a whopping $160. Tried to reuse my original OEM windshield since it didn't have a single rock chip, but it cracked upon removal. Considering that Safelite guarantees their work for the life of the vehicle, I felt it was well worth the money. Hope this helps.
If you don't buy from Safelite, you won't get a piece of glass from their Chinese factory. You might get one from another Chinese factory, but it won't be a Safelite branded one. I just had the Super Duty glass installed in mine last month. $20 more over the standard Excursion one.

Was it through Safelite? I don't really care where my glass comes from (if they can't save the original upon removal), as long as it quits leaking.
I use a local guy. He gets the good stuff on request. I am not near the truck right now, but I will check when I get back to it and let you know what manufacturer it was. It says "Super Duty" across the top.
