Issue: Installing starter and will not fit to save my life. Issue seems to be starter is bottoming out into the bellhousing. Double checked part numbers. Do not have an old starter that came off truck. Just purchased truck back from guy who swapped the motor. Unknown of any other changes. After researching. The CWC can only be found on 4spd bellhousing but I wouldnt see that an issue. Issue I see is inside bellhousing is a large piece blocking starter. Any help is good help at this point. Currently trying to take photos. Piece inside bellhousing. Starter.
Have you tried measuring the depth to that casting nub in the bellhousing? You could measure the starter from its mounting face to the round protrusion. In this day and age, it's very possible someone sold you the wrong part.
I do see D2AF-11131-CA cast into the starter nose, so googling those characters will shed some more information on it.

no, I have not. After fidling with it for some time I threw in the towel. I'll measure everything. I referenced the part number and it pulls back for the correct 302 though...

Reason: Spelling
When you put them side by side you will see that there is a difference in how far out the drive gear sits when in it's static position, as well as the shape/size of the snout.
Lots of issues with this two starter thing. Actually more than two were used, when you factor in the later model styles, but there were two main starters for the earlier setups.
