Cold no start

Just picked up a 2000 Ex with 7.3 330K miles but runs great and well maintained. Drove to NY last week where temps were a little cooler and didn't want to start. Turns over but no fire.. Will start after several attempts. Any idea where to start looking?

Thanks,
Jerry

Numba one suspect glow plug system and it's something you'll want to check this time of year anyway, it won't start with them.

The glow plugs can be checked via ohm with a 2.0 or less reading as good from the harness on the outside of the valve cover. No need to remove the valve cover to check them. Simply use a multimeter and ground the black lead, then test each of the 4 outer pins (slightly larger than the other pins) in the valve cover connector.

GP pins on the harness...

location of connector with pins you should be testing...

The GPR (Glow Plug Relay) can also be a cause of a no start condition because if the GPR has failed, none of the GP's will work as designed.

Excursions have glow plug control modules. Is it possible to diagnose them with ForScan?

Dangit, missed the Excursion detail. Although, some Ex's have the GPR, but most have the GPCM.

I don't think you can diagnose the GP's with Forscan, but the test should be the same for the GP's whether you have the GPCM or GPR.

Is that enough acronyms or am I still short?
