Another 7.3 Cold Start Question

Kind of a 7.3 noob here so go easy. My truck does not like to start unless I plug it in for an hour or two. It fires right up after it has been plugged in. The wait to start light goes off in about 5-7 seconds like it should but when I go to start, it sounds like it wants to start right when I turn the key, then it just starts cranking and I stop. The weather here in NJ hasn't been terribly cold either (around 40-50 degrees average in the morning). Otherwise when my truck is running, everything is fine, no problems at all. About 1,500 miles ago when I bought the truck in September, it seemed to start fine without being plugged in. So I'm not really sure what could be wrong now.

Any help is appreciated.

Any smoke when you crank?

Next time you go to start, leave the key in the ON position for another 10-15 seconds after the WTS light goes out... The glow plugs are independent from the light...
