Has anyone installed 1 of these? Do they help in lifting the gate closed as well? Would there be any advantage to installing 1 on the passengers side? Thanks!
I tried to copy and paste as I have many times before and it won't work no matter how many times I try...….
I have one that I bought and installed a couple years ago. It is great!
I just lift the handle and let the tailgate come down by itself with gravity and it does it just about as soft as I would if I were still holding and supporting it. The tailgate assist does not help with closing/lifting the tailgate. It kind of works in the opposite fashion that a gas strut works for a hood, liftgate or something similar.
This is the one I bought and would highly recommend anything similar to it.
I have the same DeeZee item Sous linked to above. It's nice when you are carrying something; you don't have to put down your load to finagle the tailgate. Just pop the tailgate handle with a finger and it eases itself down instead of slamming down.
I put one on my 2001 F250 soon after I bought it new.
It definitely helps restrict the fall, but I don't think it does much as the tailgate goes up. Although, if your hand was to slip the gate does not fall too fast back down.
As far as putting up my tailgate, if I have my hands full I just squat down and use my shoulder and legs to close the tail gate, as if doing squats at the gym.
Also, I happened to talk to manufacturer earlier today, and they stated that the install goes on the driver's side only because the passenger side has more bolts/hardware/ etc. where you would unbolt to remove the tailgate.
