I've searched the forums and internet for info on the PATS red dash indicator light bulb or anti-theft indicator light bulb, but have not found much, yet.
There was one old thread were it was stated "the bulb was out, up and running now ", but that is not very helpful.
I have followed the circuit in the Wiring Diagrams, but there is no info there on removal and bulb no.s, so maybe the Service Manual?
Our car works, starts, runs fine, but there is no blinking red light from the little red indicator on the dash so I suspect the bulb is bad.
I've tried prying up the little panel the indicator is mounted on, but I don't want to crack it.
Has anyone changed out the PATS light bulb, how does it come out and what bulb does it use?
Remove the dash bezel, remove the gauge cluster and the bulbs are on the back in twist lock holders, each is labeled with an abrevation in addition the theft one is a red holder. The bulb itself is the only LED one in the bunch.
That sensor on the dash for Excursion is the sunload sensor, used for the autolamp system.
I believe your PATS indicator is still in the cluster...here is image i found online of backside of that bezel, shows a couple of the attachment clips...

You and Pirate are correct.
Our 2002 Excursion has a "THEFT" light in the instrument cluster.
Our 2003 Expedition has the PATS indicator at the base of the windshield and looks similar to the sun sensor in the Excursion.
It is slightly oval so I think the indicator has the PATS status on the back side and the sun sensor on the front side.
