I used the search feature and many, many threads popped up but not finding what I'm looking for. Basically, looking for a new ignition key. I called the closest Ford dealership in Modesto and they want close to $300 for the key and then to program it. I knew it was going to be pricey but that's crazy! Does anybody know of a cheaper alternative?
I did this recently for the Honda Civic I bought for my son (his first car). Honda dealer wanted $150 for the first key and $90 each additional, which included programming. Went to a local locksmith and got two copies for $110.
I guess that depends on what you have. For my 2011 I bought a blank on amazon with the remote part empty. It was like $5. Then I took it to Lowes and had them copy my main key for $2. After that I took the chip out of my main key and transferred it into the new key. Works perfect. The old one was beat up and kept falling apart. If you've lost it all then that is a different story but I have heard as long as you have the main key you can program the second yourself.
Can FORScan now do PATS key programming. I thought I read where it can.
If you buy a key and not from a locksmith or dealer, make sure it is an 80 bit chip key. I have never had any problems with the 80 bit Chinese keys they sell on eBay for like 2 blanks for $12 or less.
On a side note and your knowledge base, Ford limits you to the number of keys you can program for the trucks before needing the PATS/BCM "reset" or cleared. You are limited to 4 key fob keys (remote start) or 8 standard chip keys. $ key fob keys is the max.
You can get unlimited keys turned on by a dealer so you can add unlimited number of either keys. Maybe not unlimited due to storage space in the BCM memory but more than 8 keys.
Tasca Ford has remote start that are plug and play with 2 keys for 229. Check your model and year and trim. I did one couple of years back. Easy install, not wire cutting. Had locksmith cut keys, I programed keys from owners manual, took to dealer and he turned it on in the computer for $20. I do think the 20 was because I bought the truck there and small town. It's not long range maybe 300 to 500 feet? Works great for me. Other Ford dealers may have something too. Bought it online.https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts...gtZmxleA%3D%3D
Gee, no one bothered to ask several very basic questions:
1. Year and model of vehicle (newbies often post in the wrong section).
2. Style of key.
3. Reason for needing new/additional key(s). For example, lost all of them, one of them, just want extras, etc.
There's a huge difference in what must be done depending on those factors.

Well, one would think if he is not talking about his current truck (his profile shows a 2014 F350), he would have specified the other vehicle.
There is only one style of key and that is the 80 bit chip key with the fob head ($300 Ford dealer wanted for one key and programming is a give away on this).
Reason doesn't matter. He has one and wants a second key. If he had no keys, he would have said how do i get a new key......not an additional key...
