Man I feel dumb. When I bought my Bko I only got 1 ignition key. Well I was needing to lock it up, so I called a freind locksmith out to my work to make me a key. Well he made me one, and walked inside and gave me a ignition key and told me to have a good day. I thouht wth? Well turns out, my bronco only takes one key for the doors and ignition. Every other ford I've owned (quite a few) took 2 keys, whats up with this?
Are you taliing about the 78 in your sig?
Cause I have never heard of any ford truck using 1 key before about 92or 93.
My 82 has 2 keays and the door keys are backward to the ignition so there isent anyway on my truck to key them the same.
The ignition key works the door locks and the ignition on the Bronco just like the F-series. The round key works the tailgate keyswitch and the glovebox lock. (Yeah the F-series round key has the rather dubious honor of being able to lock the glovebox and thats it).
Ahh, cool. That is definitely different than any that I have owned. Its really not that difficult to do. Just a matter of swapping lock cylinders. It could have been something a P/O had done for convenience too. I've had a couple of replacement ignition tumblers set to match the existing key. A good locksmith can do that almost as fast as they can swap the lock itself.
My 79 has two different keys - one for the ignition and one for the doors. Don't know about the tailgate key cause the p/o bondoed the hole over! lol My glove box has no insert so the key is kinda pointless there, and the centre console takes the old round key from the 88 it came outta!
What's happening is that the last 3/4" or so inch on the tip of the key works with the ignition, and the rest works with the door. I know that because I've recently changed the ignition cylinder (broke) and now I have 2 keys, not counting the tailgate key.
Every ford, i've ever owned has had one key for the door and ignition and one key for the trunk. 1967 Mustang, 1969 Cougar, 1987 Escort, 1999 Ranger, 1996 Bronco, 1994 Tempo.
69, thats what I was saying, I've owned and parted many of many trucks and a few cars, and they all took 2 keys, and this is the one and only exception for me. I just wasnt surey why they did it
Wow, I am lost. I have not seen my 88 bronco in over a year, but I am pretty sure that my square ignition key only works on the ignition, not thedoors. My cirlce key works the doors, glove box and rear window. My 82 F-100 was the same way minus the rear window.
