I want to replace my camshaft and I need to know if my truck is before series 84000 or after. How do I tell? Also, do any of you have any recommendations as to what cam I should slap in. So far everything else is stock. except exhaust - dualed out wit cherry bombs dumps right after the doors
I believe the series number refers to the last 5 digits of your VIN number - but you will also need to know what the letter is in front of the 5 digits. For example: in 1969, the series went from D82000 to G29999, which means you could have a D84000, an E84000, or an F84000. In '70, the series went from G30000 to J70000, so you could gave a G84000, or H84000, or I84000.
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
As far as cam selection goes, it depends on what you want the truck to do; race on the strip / street? pull down the neighbor's house?
I just saw another of your posts - you have a 67 F250 with the 352, right? The series numbers for 67 were A00000 to B81999.
and what if your engine is different, IE from a donor car or truck? Seems to me that a cam would be dependant on the engine manufactured date and not chassis, if it really should be dependant on that alone. You are ordering a cam for say a 390, you would want to buy one for a specific use.. towing, dragracing, street... what difference would it make when the date the door was put on the cab?

The engine in the truck is the original engine. As for cam choice, I am going stock to save money - I would have to replace the springs if I got a performance cam. If it arrives today, will install this weekend and post the results monday.
