PATS / Remote start problems

I have a 2009 F150 king ranch and the remote start is not working..I think the Pat system is preventing it from starting. If you lock the door and hit the start button the dash and radio start up but it beeps the horn once and will not start the engine. If you leave a key in the ignition and try and start it with the FOB the horn beeps 5 times and shuts off. The engine light will also flash 7 or 8 times. I stuck my ob2 on it and it said one of the O2 sensors was a pending code. Replaced the o2 ( $200) cleared the codes and still nothing. It starts and runs fine with the keys. Any help or direction would be appreciated. Any information on the Pat system would be appreciated as it is new to me..I live in Alberta Canada we have snow already and it gets bloody cold........

I forgot to mention there is a button under the dash that I think has to do with the remote start but I'm not sure what it does

It's not factory so you would have to figure out what is causing the interlock. It has to be looking for a confirmation signal.

The factory didn't put any buttons under the dash.

If PATS were preventing starting, you'd have an active cluster with a fast-flashing THEFT light. The O2 sensor had absolutely nothing to do with the remote starting.

Get your head up under there and do a visual inspection and find out what you have. You're the only one who can see it.

I've seen your issue happen with factory remote start systems when the buttons are pressed too much or if there has been more than 2 attempts to remote start it. Usually once you go into the vehicle and start it with a key the system resets back to normal again. Also, did you try replacing the battery in the remote in case it's weak and sending out a bad signal?

Replaced the batteries in both remotes no luck the remotes look factory have ford stamped on the back of them. Looked under the dash but don't know what I'm looking for..Tried the reprogram steps for the keys no luck..Remotes work fine on the door locks. Same thing happens as before the dash starts up but the the theft light starts to blink the horn goes off and it shuts the dash dow.I did get a thief code threw the ob2 reader stated engine immobilized

What you have is a dealer installed accessory. There was no factory remote start until 2011.

I'm going off the assumption you have the Ford Accessories remote start system installed. It's not a factory installed remote start, but it is a Ford product that is dealer installed.

Here's a list of horn chirps and their associated problem:
  • 1 chirp - SECURILOCK (PATS) not programmed correctly, or the SECURILOCK antenna ring is damaged.
  • 2 chirps - Brake is being pressed, or the hood is open
  • 3 chirps - Vehicle door is open
  • 4 chirps - Tach not programmed
  • 5 chirps - The key is in the ignition
  • 6 chirps - The remote start system is in service/valet mode
So when you put the key in the ignition you got the 5 horn chirps. That let me know you most likely have the Ford system installed.

And you are correct in diagnosing that it's the PATS system preventing the remote start from functioning, that's the one horn chirp you're getting. Your kit is installed with a SECURILOCK ring that goes around the ignition. Basically it's programmed as a "3rd key", meaning it powers on when you command a remote start and PATS treats it as if there's a key present.

So either the SECURILOCK ring is damaged and/or failed, or it somehow lost it's programming.

Do you have two working keys? There has to be 2 of them.

If so, try reprogramming the SECURILOCK to see if you can get it working again.
  • Insert first key in the ignition and turn to the RUN position (do not start)
  • Count 3 long seconds, remove the first key
  • Immediately insert the second key, turn to run position again and count 3 long seconds
  • Remove second key and press and hold remote start button on the FOB for 3 seconds
  • Engine will start if everything is working correctly
If it doesn't start then the SECURILOCK is probably damaged or has failed.

If you have the bi-directional FOB (the one that lights up flashes and beeps to confirm successful start), then you double tap the FOB instead of press and hold for 3 seconds.

Let us know what happens. Hopefully this gets your remote start working again.

I think you need a bypass module installed as part of the remote start. I'm not an expert, so that may be the wrong terminology. Maybe you can search the brand name of starter and "FORD PATS BYPASS" and see what comes up? Good luck.

You haven't provided any relevant information like what you're working on, what type of system is involved, etc.

It's a 2009 King Ranch with the 200 series remote start...I though it was a factory install but was told that it's an aftermarket ford remote start as the 2009 did not have factory remote starts. Iv tried the programming steps. The door lock unlock functions work fine it's just the remote start that will not work..If you hit the start function all the dash fires up but the horn honks and the engine will not start..I'm pretty sure it's the Pat's system that preventing it from starting.

This appears to be a duplicate/repeat of your previous thread to which you didn't respond. Please avoid making duplicate posts.... it just confuses things.
