59 f100 carburetor
Hi all. The Holley carburetor on truck is giving me all kinds of problems. It rarely starts on its own. I have to pour gas into the carb for it to start. Once it starts i can keep it on by pumping the gas as needed. I dont feel comfortable doing the carb kit on it cuz there no guarantees it will fix it. I tied already taking apart and dip into solvent. No success. Are there other options forbthe carburetor replacement? Does it have to be a holley or how would i go about getting something else that is compatible with truck. Thanks in advance for any ideas, suggestions

How did you dip it without disassembling it? Kit for it is like 20bucks. I've rebuilt mine twice in 10yrs. You can have a couple different issues. The gas boiling out of the bowl after shutting off comes to mind. Leaking accelerator pump out the bottom is another issue. Plugged up ports in carb from alcohol gas is an issue I've dealt with in the past. You need to rebuild instead of buying another. I just replaced my base plate on mine a couple weeks ago. I had a vacuum leak at an idle. An old time mechanic grabbed the throttle shaft and could wiggle it sideways. I bought a brand new base complete with shaft and butterflies on fleabay for
$24 with free shipping. Came in 2 days. Fleabay also has brand new Motorcraft knock off 2100's for $75 complete. Only problem is the whole choke mechanism is on passenger side and would hit the coil, whereas the Holley has the choke on the drivers side.
