Let me start off with I searched and could not find a definite answer, so hopefully one of you electrical wizards can help. I am about to purchase some Amp power steps for my 2017 F250. The question I have for you guys is can I control the up and down function with one my up fitter switches. To be clear, what I want to be able to do is by pass the auto opening feature when I want through the up fitter switch instead of using the add on 3 way switch that Amp sells.
Thanks
Should be doable, just going to need to add relays to perform the function of their switch. Personally I mounted the switch at the top of the lower dash cover to the left of the steering column. Love the location as I can easily reach it from outside the truck. Very handy for loading stuff in the back seat area, just open the drivers door, flip the switch and the running board goes up and in for a much shorter reach, I can even reach into the center console from outside the truck.
Copy that. I will probably end up buying there switch, I'm not electrically gifted enough to try and fab something up. I was hoping someone else had done it and had a quick " here's how I did it" video or picture guide..lol
this may be little to no help, but FWIW, i had to trouble shoot mine a few years back. Here is what they suggest for "trigger wires". The trigger wires that tap into the vehicle door ajar switches are ground sensing. That is: these wires look for a ground signal. In general, closing the circuit to ground with one of these wires lowers the step and an open circuit (no ground signal) retracts the step (except for 2008 and up Ford Super Duty and 2009 and up Ford F-150). This can be a useful test to isolate concerns and to diagnose conditions.
