In Dash Head unit fitment (Pioneer DEH-X3600UI)

So wanted to get my son a decent head unit for the 74 F100. Does a standard single DIN head unit fit well in our truck dash/instrument panel? Thinking about a Pioneer DEH-X3600UI

Dash will have to be modified to accept a DIN 1 head. DIN 2 would require major work. Can be done just take your time.

So my assumption is that the Pioneer head unit is DIN 1. Is that correct? I seem to remember taking an old Clarion unit out of the dash that fit just fine, but can't remember, has been almost three years ago.

If it's not a old 2 post type stereo, you will need to modify (cut some out) the metal plate that holds the stereo and the cut dash bezel.

Remove the dash bezel and then the metal bracket the holds the heater controls/radio and get the modding. The hard part is cutting up a perfectly good dash bezel.

Free idea on what it will look like here...NORTH COUNTRY SPECIALTIES ®

Here is my take on adding a din head unit to my truck. If you want to take the time here's how I filled the gap under the head unit.

You'll have to glue a piece of abs behind as a backer and use a plastic compatable filler.

Smooth her out with some fine sand paper.

I repainted the whole dash with this.

And re did the edges with a krylon silver leafing pen.

The radio support I ended up welding support to it and hogging out the middle.

Finished product.

I bet he started with a radio bracket that looked like this and then made the hole bigger and then added the side plates. And then trimmed the dash bezel bigger.

Do the pictures not make it obvious? Sorry, I'm not trying to be rude, I just don't understand how to answer your question other than to tell you to look at the pictures.

Sorry-
I typed that on my iPhone before checking to see other replies. For some reason, I get email notification of some replies and posts, but not all. I'll try to log onto a desktop next time.

I did wings similar to what CO did, but I really like the side screw idea FMC has to support the radio. I might have to go out and redo mine now...
