Just got back from Mexico... the Lobo I saw had a sticker clearly saying "MADE FOR MEXICO ONLY" from the Ford factory. That was the XL model with the 3.3 motor. For some reason, neither the V-8 nor the EcoBoost had that. Price was 856,000 pesos for Lobo Lariat 4x4.
The new F-150 in the U.S. has the "F-150" in the bottom of the tailgate instead of the chrome emblem on the 2015-2017 models while the 2018 and 2019 Lobo still uses the "Lobo" emblem on the left side.
Under the hood of the 2018 Ford Lobo Lariat and Platinum, neither one had any mention of emissions anywhere under the hood. There goes the idea of registering in California.
Since the v8 and Ecoboost did not have the made for Mexico only sticker, does that mean that those models can be imported to CA? I just got back from Mexico and was wanting to bring a LOBO over too. I have been looking into the process of importing a foreign vehicle and was hopeful that it can be done since the both the US & Mexico F150's are made in the same plants in the US. I was hoping it would only require some fee's and a smog check to be registered in CA.

Hmmmm, I didn`t know that a non CA emissions equipped vehicle could be registered in CA.
If this vehicle is not equipped with CA emissions equipment, why would you have it smog checked?
Yes, F150`s come from the US but wherever those F150`s are shipped meaning within the US or to Mexico, each State in the US and in this case the country of Mexico has their own emissions standards.
Not all States in the US use the CA emissions standards equipment on new vehicles.

You can buy a CA compliant vehicle anywhere and bring it in to CA, new or used.
You can bring your non-CA vehicle into CA if you are moving here.
If you are a CA resident, you can not buy a new or used non-CA compliant vehicle and register it in the state*****see below, some exceptions***** No going to Texas and buying a new 49 state vehicle and having it registered here for example.
Unless there is a DOT, EPA, CARB, or other fine regulatory sticker under the hood of the LOBO which says "CA compliant", you will not be able to register it here.
None of this is new, nor is it secret.
See here for the full information straight from the state:
Each state has such a web site and while these questions often elicit all kinds of colorful epithets aimed at CA, or stories of how it's done down in Southern Alabama as long as you have a quart of moonshine for the DMV guy, I would urge anyone buying to get your questions answered by the people who issue license and registration, not some pedantic crank on the internet.

Reason: see post 50
A CA resident can purchase a federal 49 state used vehicle and register just fine provided it has 7500 miles. I have purchased plenty. Just need a CHP inspection, certified weight slip and valid brake and light inspection on trucks.

Missed/forgot that one, there is another exemption as well for replacement or vehicles inherited or gotten in divorce etc.
There were no compliance stickers under the hood of the new Lobo. I don't think it's even possible here in California while it may be in other states, even with 7,500 miles.
