I've been told I can't use an earlier model year e4od trans in my 1995 f150. I thought any 92-96 e4od with a small block bellhousing would work. Anybody have any info on e4od interchange?
Do not go that way. If you chose go forward. All E4OD's can be upgraded at a reasonable cost to offset any idea to go backwards. In fact any rebuild by a reputable transmission guy will upgrade your transmission to better than new.
I have found a couple of transmissions in the $100 - $200 range and it's just an old farm/wood truck. I hate to spend half the truck's value on a rebuild.
The newer yrs are better. There's also a change in the valve body wiring harness in the earlier yrs, don't rem exactly, but using would require changing the harness or VB.
I've heard the solenoid pack harness can be re-pinned to work with the pre-95 trans. I was hoping one of the experienced members here would have more info.

Is that the lightning in your sig? Shame to use a sports truck as a farm truck.Someone would probably like to have one to restore.
You can use the older trans, just make sure you use your newer ('95+) solenoid pack. The diesels changed between a 4 stud and a 6 stud converter but with the gas engines,I think they're all the same.
$100-$200 is core price for an E4OD.At least the diesel ones.If you can find any working in that price range, that's even cheaper than an old used C6!
You could use one of those old 3 speeds too if you wanted for a farm truck. You'd need much more modifications than just swapping out a solenoid pack, such as cross member, driveshaft length,a manual shift ECM swap, etc. but if you can get a working E4OD for C6 price, your golden.I do hope this isn't a lightning though.
No, the Lightning in the sig is my one owner 20,000 mile garage queen LOL. I picked up an old 95 4wd f150 that I don't want to put a $1k rebuilt trans in.
Oh that's good to hear.Yeah whatever you can find for the old woods truck. You don't need to buy the solenoid pack either, just use the one in your old trans.Just don't forget you'll need a 4wd version trans.
