E4OD: swapping the insides?

E4OD: swapping the insides?
How hard is it to swap out all of the guts from a factory reconditioned E4OD to my old casing?
Why: Because I bought a (Ford) rebuilt E4OD from someone a couple of month back after checking the part numbers with my local Ford dealer. Guess what? Yep, wrong bolt pattern! Shame on me for not checking with at least two dealers. (I know better!)
Both are 1992 E4OD model transmissions. There are no visual cracks or other problems with the old casing. The second gear clutches went south.
ALternatively, what is a good source for a rebuild kit for this beast. If I go this route, what is the preferred shop manual for the rebuild (Especially one which includes instructions on upgrades.)
