Tried Waze tonight and it "couldn't find a connection". Odd. I'd say I use CarPlay maybe about 5% of the time. I hate electronic nanny's... Seriously question the worth.
The only time I updated was back in January. So I'm at version 2.3 17xxx. Ford didn't make it easy then and it isn't easy today. I've gone to the Ford Owner website. Gotten to the SYNC download page and clicked Begin SYNC Update to download it. Nothing but a spinning circle in the center of the page with no results. Why does something that should be a snap to accomplish have to be such a PIA?

Thanks for this information. I was able to download the update easily from that link. Following the instructions there, the update has completed. Didn't need to unpair and re-pair the phone. I haven't played with it to see if any noticeable changes have occurred, but it is up and running the updated software.
It took approximately 10 minutes to download from the above link, but at least there was a progress bar and I could see what was happening. The Ford site just kept showing the spinning circle for about 15 minutes with no results.
For now I've still got the zip file sitting on the desktop. I could probably email it if anyone wants it.
Since i did the update every now and then when i start the truck the radio will start playing the just shut off completely. I hit the power button and it comes back on with no problems. just weird. anyone else have this issue?

The one time I did drive the truck yesterday after the update, I noticed that when I came out of the restaurant after lunch and started the truck the radio was on FM. I'm sure it was on satellite when I parked the truck. I guess the coming days will tell if that's an issue or not. I have read of others here who had the truck default to AM radio upon restarts.

Yes, I have this issue. the 3.0 update is terrible!!!!!!!! I wish I would have never did the update.
Tried breaking it into two installs, then got a ERR_04. Did a master reset, then close door, wait 5, new (THIRD) USB drive and it worked! So much for the definition of insanity...
On the bright side, Waze is there with the apps!

Mine is going back to FM part of the time after the update. (was definitely on Satellite when I shut down)
I haven't tried replicating it as it's been a busy day since the update. But it seems that if I have satellite on but turn the audio off before turning off the truck ignition, it will return to satellite when I restart the truck.
But if I have satellite on and simply shut the truck off without shutting the audio down, it'll be on FM when I restart the truck. Strange.
On a probably unrelated note, I downloaded the Sygic app on the iPhone 8. With Apple CarPlay disabled like the instructions say the app never appears onscreen in the truck. With CarPlay enabled some other apps show up, but not Sygic. Supposedly this is being addressed in an app update but Apple hasn't approved it for the App Store yet. So Sygic says.
Just updated mine. Before: v3 build 18093, After: v3 build 19205. Gracenote & map version did not change. I tried for a couple hours to do it over wireless, but no joy. I then went USB route. The first two times I plugged in the USB, nothing. Third time it worked and updated ok. The audio system powers up in whatever mode I left it.... so far.
Under the 3.0_18025 version, my radio would always switch from Sirius back to FM on restart. This got annoying, so I downgraded back to version 2.3.
This new version came out and I was hopeful that after all of this time the issue with reverting to FM would be corrected. I should have known better. I installed this new update 3 days ago. Since then, every time I start the truck, it reverts to FM just as before. I guess it's time to downgrade to V2.3 once again.
Ford really needs to address this, but I'm doubtful that they even care at this point.
Sync 4 is a fully new Sync system. It won't help folks with problems with the Sync 3 system at all. In fact it may make it less likely that our issues get fixed as Ford puts its attention on the new system.
