Cam phaser lock out kit please help

Hey guys has anyone installed the lockout kits with a the engine tune?
I'm asking to find out if the trick still will accelerate as quickly? I don't want to loose any power

Well you will lose performance

You are dumbing down the engine. Lockouts don't fix anything . Oil flow problems,.broken guides ,rollers going bad , lashs sticking ,all this leads to jumping time --cam damage etc .
Plus the $700 you could use to fix it spent on two little pieces and a software bypass to fool pcm .
Can you tell I think its a bad idea. Good luck anyway

Just in case you couldn't tell that @redfishtd thinks it is a bad idea - let me add that there are about THREE conditions where the 'STOCK' PCM places the cams at FULL advance (the position where lockouts 'LOCKS' them).
1.) Idle - (below 800 RPM)
2.) Greater than ~ 90% Throttle
3.) Greater than 3500 - 4000 RPM.

The rest of the time, the PCM is using some degree of cam retard - for added torque and/or EGR function. So if you never operate your truck at any of the other driving conditions, I'd say lockouts are probably fine.

Sounds like my driving style lol but just a question what does this customer tune do to the pcm does it adjust the timing to somewhere in the middle?

not to argue, but hey have been building engines for over 100 years without lockouts... My 2002 5.4 does not have them... I might miss a couple HP, but long term I am glad to not have that problem.

Your 2002 5.4 doesn't have that failure to it, it's an entirely different engine all together, this post is on the 2004 to 2008 forum
