Not sure if I'm just lucky or if there is a larger issue but I've had my F350 since April and have already been through one window and now have multiple cracks in the new one. I have them fixed when small so they don't spread but at $50 bucks a pop that is getting expensive.
While driving yesterday at about 10mph while in traffic, a small pebble was kicked up and cracked the window. The pebble rested on my windshield wiper and was seriously not any bigger than a BB but it cracked the glass.
Are you guys/gals noticing that these windows seem to crack really easy?
I do live in Colorado and it is somewhat "normal" to go through a window a year on average. I also understand there are so many variables in a pebble striking the glass but these windshields just seem very fragile and don't make me feel as though this window measures up to a Superduty.. My 06 windshield took a lot worse as I lived in a rural area with gravel roads. I frequented the highways with the sanding they do, but I did not experience the cracks like this.
Not necessarily a complaint but I'm curious to see what you all have experienced so far with your trucks.
Yes, the factory glass is junk. Already been through one windshield. Replaced with OEM glass through third party and replacement glass seems much stronger.
I have made it through two winters, and have one large crack and it’s spiderign now. Happened last winter, a fairly large rock. Same thing, it hit the top of the windshield and rested on the trim before the hood. About 1/2 but sharp. It’s so bad I am going to have to replace before winter. Right in my line of sight.
x2 on the crap factory glass on the Ford trucks. I drove a 2016 RAM 1500 for 2 years before my 2018 F250 and had some big rocks slam into it on the freeway, but never got a single chip or crack.
OP, since you’re in Colorado you might check out optional glass coverage from your insurance agent. I had State Farm in CO and they sold me a zero deductible glass add-on for about $4 every 6 months. Super cheap and windshields didn’t cost me an additional dime. It was great for my wife’s Acura. She went thru 4 windshields in 5 years. Not so great for my F250. Drove it for 14 years and still had the original windshield in it when I sold it a few months ago. Have moved around the country a bit and have been disappointed that State Farm doesn’t offer that coverage in the other states I’ve lived in.
