First a question. Does anyone know if there is any protective film or coating or anything put on the windshield from Ford?
So I had my windows tinted today.
Had a mobile guy come out today. Tinted all my windows. Said if I did my sunroof then it was 50/50 that it would shatter because of the heat in AZ. I never heard of that but just decided to skip it because if it was 10% chance, I didn't want it. Anyone hear of that?
But here is the fail. I had the windshield done with the ceramic film with no tint. Just wanted to block the heat. First go around there was a half inch hair. I complained and he did it again. Second go around, I see scratches in the tint. Loops all over the passenger side. My nail catches in it so I know it's in the tint. He tries to tell me it's in the glass but it's not in the tint. It's not on the outside so he says he wont charge me for it and gives me an option to keep it or remove it. I am seeing more scratches on the drivers side. I tell him to remove it and guess what? It's in the glass. On the inside. He knew he did it but says he doesn't know how it happened. I know he used a hard plastic squeegee to clean the glass.
First picture look above the lamp and that is a scratch. There is probably 20 of them.
So he has offered to replace the windshield. Hoping he follows through on this.
If it is scratched and he really used a plastic squeegee, then I suspect there must be some sort of soft coating on the inside of the glass. Glass is still glass, even not tempered. We have all sorts of glass in our home and none of it gets scratched by plastic. It has to be some coating, maybe it's the UV coating they apply?
I have seen about six or seven tinted windshields and thats first one with scratches, thats why he pay for new one, p.s my f150 has black out sun roofs and has not broken he just lazy to keep his head upwards my tinter said he is in building right next to me .. He also replaces windows the should be no film that scratches like that it might left over glue from his first f-up . mine will de on Friday
My tint guy said the same thing about tinting sun roofs here in Florida. He has seen several shatter. He'll tint them, but it's cash only, no warranty. All of his window tint comes with a transferable lifetime warranty.
FYI to you guys, the front driver and passenger windows in our 2017s are just like the front windshield. They are two seperate sheets of acoustic glass glued together. They are not tempered and will not shadder like a tempered window does. Depending on how big a blow they sustain it could spiderweb just the exterior Pane of glass and it looks much like a windshield strike now.
if you looo closely at the top edge of your glass when it's rolled down you will see what I mean.
