I have had this happen a few times now. If I panic brake I get a violent shake in the steering wheel like the death wobble. I think the front axle/tires are locking and skipping off the road. I don't have any death wobble issue when hitting bumps and othetwise the truck drives perfect. If I ease in on the brake a press hard enough to get the abs to kick in it's fine. Only seems to happen if I have to stay the brake in a panic stop. Only seems to happen on dry roads. I would think this is not normal, but this is my first solid axle truck. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a fix to it? Is it normal?
I don't think the rotors are wrapped, I don't get any vibration when braking. I tried braking lightly, medium and hard with my hands off the wheel and no shake. It only happens when it's a quick and hard stab on the brakes. I was thinking it might have been a brake imbalance but it does pull either when braking either. Maybe something in the suspension, bad shock, steering stabilizer, bushings? I do have the snow plow prep and a 6.2 so there isn't much weight on the front end and it's a stiff setup.
I don't see how it can be warped rotors as there is no shake, vibration or pulsing in any other braking situation. I can check the runout of the rotors on the truck and off but doubt I will find anything. The shake I get in a panic stop is like what I have seen in a dead wobble. I can't hold the steering wheel steady, it moves just like in a death wobble. The whole truck shakes. It is like driving the wrong speed down a washboarded road.
