I bought a truck and the guy converted the hubs from auto locking hubs to manual locking hubs, so i still have the switch inside. Is it ok to leave the hubs locked and just flip the switch on the inside, or is that bad for the truck?
I swapped the auto hubs on my 01 to warn manual and always liked to unlock them when I wasnt using the 4x4. If it's locked its putting wear and tear on the parts. imo.
I leave my Auto/Manual hubs in Auto so I can easily switch into or out of 4x4 inside.
Leaving them in manual takes mpg and unnecessary wear on the hub assy.
And.... I don't have to get out and lock them in when it's below zero or in a snow storm.
And... I don't have to worry if I got both locked in all the way or at all.
fun fact: all 4wd rigs had solid drive spline discs in them for years before locking hubs were invented.
Warn industries will tell you that they invented them as a fuel saving and wear reducing feature back in the 40's.
They are not there to prevent your truck from blowing-up, but they sure are nice to have if you blow-out an axle u-joint (for other reasons)
