New user diag ticking sound - fixed - new audio and pics

I just bought my first diesel and it started making a noise that sounds alot like valve trouble. I have heard about typewriter noise and def clicking but I am not sure if this is what I am hearing. Could anyone let me know if this is normal?
2013 f250 6.7
used torque / odb2 scanner shows no codes and no engine light is on.

Does sound like a rocker arm ticking to me. Take to dealer and have them check it. The engine might still be under warranty.

I have an appointment with ford tomorrow morning at 9.
Sitting at home worrying I have found with my scientific long wooden stick that the tapping is coming from the area in red in the picture. Also it does not make the tapping all the time it comes and goes. Seems like only when the motor is at idle it comes back after a few minutes.

Diagnosis was 2 failing fuel injectors. $1300 to fix.

Does this sound about right on the price?

Each injector alone, costs about $400 depending on where you are located geographically, plus the cost of labour and programming. That said, the price sounds about right.

I agree with m-chan68. There's a lot of interference that has to be R&R to get the valve covers off. Seems like a reasonable price if they are new injectors.

Shop replaced the two injectors and the tick is still there. So $1600 gone and now they say I have slack in the rockers and that eventually the engine will fail.

I’d ask them how many more parts do they plan on throwing at it before they diagnose and find the actual problem?

Call your credit card company and dispute the charge, too.

Idiot mechanics.

I wonder if it is the rockers? If I have those replaced will the ticking go away and will that save the motor from failure or is there really no stop to the imminent failure?

If you have slack in the rocker arms the question is WHY? I highly doubt replacing the offending rocker arms is going to repair your issue. It would seem like you have a couple of bent pushrods, if there's slack.

Man this is sad news. I just dont have any knowledge to understand if there is a fix or is this a lost cause. I have only had the truck for 22 days and its been in the shop for 7. I dont know of any honest mechanics in the New Orleans area.

And oh yeah the truck runs absolutely perfect besides the tick. Starts almost instantly, has no codes, pulls my trailer without any hesitation.

Sorry to hear it's not fixed. My engine is completely different from yours so I cannot offer any productive recommendations. For my truck that sound would most likely be a loose injector.

Have you posted in the 6.7L forum? I know for my 7.3L forum there's a lot more people with knowledge ready to help than this general SD forum. You also might be able to find someone that could recommend a good shop in NO too.

I got my truck back yesterday.
I think the mechanic was just all in his head about ticks because he didn't have the before video. I do not think I need any new rockers. I have attached the photos of the parts that were removed. The washer on one injector was seated wrong allowing some blow-by and I think the tick I was hearing was the actual combustion event coming through that black soot area. I think I could have probably fixed the issue by just replacing the one washer and re-seating the injector but I do not know if the bad seating caused extra stress and messed the injector up. I do not think the second injector needed to be replaced but would like feedback if that amount of oil on it is normal? I have also included a new video of the idle after a full day of use.

Thanks for all the information you are all great.
