I think the battery in my key head is on its way out, I'm noticing my range is much shorter than it used to be. I used to be able to lock/unlock the truck from across a parking lot, now I have to be practically right next to it. My wife's 2010 Fusion is doing the same thing. With two of them to replace I want to get out as inexpensive as possible. I don't feel like paying dealer prices, and in my experience with Batteries Plus they're pretty expensive too. Is this one of those small, round batteries I can buy at Wal-Mart? If so, which size do I need to look for? Has anyone else had to replace theirs? My truck is a 2012 so it's lasted 6 years.
If it makes a difference, neither vehicle has remote start. Thanks everyone!
Replaced the batteries for the 2006 Escape with batteries i bought from Walmart . Took the fob apart found the number and i think it was about $5 for a pair. That was about 2 years ago .
As mentioned, it's a CR 2032 available wallmart, supermarket, CVS, Hardware etc for a couple of bucks
1) Pry cover apart with a wide screwdriver
2) Make sure the rubber piece ends up back in the empty side of the key, this presses the battery into place
3) Remove and replace battey
4) Snap the cover back on
5) Done
Both of my keys are still on the original 2011 batteries, I think this fall I'll replace both of them although neither is showing much sign of slowing down. I also have an aftermarket remote start/keyless entry with a full mile range that I use if I can't see or hear the truck start.
If you think it's acting goofy, drop it on the ground from shoulder height. If it seems to work better after that you may simply need to clean the contact points. In my case new batteries lasted about 4 months at a time, drove me crazy!
