2012 Explorer limited with push button start. One of the fobs will not allow the vecihle to start unless it is in the pocket in the console. Battery has been replaced. Anybody seen this and is there a fix. Will buy new fob if I have to just don't want to have go to a dealer to have it programmed.
If I remember correctly, you need 2 working intelligent keys in order to program a key so if this is one of the 2 original, you're out of luck. You say it won't start the truck unless it is in the console pocket. That means that the system recognizes the key as properly programmed and valid but its acting as if it has a dead battery. That pocket provides enough inductive power for the key to function. You need to look closely at the battery contact areas in the fob. Clean? Sure the batteries are good and installed properly? It definitely sounds like a battery issue.
Everything clean. Old battery 2.2 volts new battery 3.3 volts. I think maybe the transmitter went bad. I have got to see if the old key will start the van if it is just in the proxsimity of the pocket. Unprogramed key has to go in the pocket. For programming..
When the fob is in the pocket the vehicle provides the power to make it work. This is so that a fob with a dead battery will still be able to start the vehicle. If the one you have will start the vehicle when in the pocket then it is programmed properly and it is transmitting and receiving.
Programming a new or erased fob is a separate issue and requires that you have 2 working fobs present. That's to prevent someone, like a valet parking attendant, from using the one fob you give him from duplicating it so he can come to your house later and steal your vehicle.
