I am no longer able to use my key pad to get into my truck - 2004 F-250 V10. I think it might need a battery, but when I called the dealer they said I have to replace the whole thing, not just a battery. Has anyone else had this problem? I ordered at the time I ordered the truck new in 2004.
I can't find a post anywhere that can answer this.
The factory version is wired into the truck. The glued on version is a dealer add-on or aftermarket and those use a battery.
The guy you talked to probably believes yours is wired in.
You will have to determine whether it is. The battery powered add-on version is usually thicker and looks kind of cheezy, and the top just pries off the change the battery, or so I've read.
The keypad should look like one of those below. As Bill said,the thicker model is the add-on and has its own battery. If it's more of a flush mount like the other picture, it runs off the vehicle's electrical system. I'm guessing since yours is an '04 model, it's the add-on unit.
