So I've had this 2014 F150 XL 4X4 140,000 miles for a couple months now. In the beginning when I was in drive the the gear indicator lights on the dash lit up (1-6 depending on what gear I was in). Then for a week or two they would only light when the shift lever was in "M" now they are back in drive. I don't know if it is some thing I did or not, does anybody know what is going on? There are a couple of other odd ball things that are beginning to make think I may have problem in one or more of the on board computers or sensors or something else I know nothing about! I'm thinking I may not want to get rid of the old 7.3 IDI no computers on that engine any way. Thanks for looking.
When it’s in drive, push the + button on the shifter; that will make the gear display show up. It shuts off whenever you take it out of drive, so you have to do it each time if you want to see it.

Mine stays on unless I turn it off. But I believe the manual states to use the - not the +. Maybe the + goes back to off after restart....

Friend has a 2011 that shuts off after restart. We've tried " + " and " - ". Thinking they changed the programming to retain at some point? My '13 remembers.
