95 F350 - Hard shifting, no odometer

Hello,

I have done some digging on these forums and believe that either my VSS is bad at the rear differential, or my PSOM. I removed the VSS today and it looks fine, wasn't even too dirty. So now I am wondering if I should look more into the PSOM, which I don't really know much about. All I can say is when I put power to my ignition, I don't even get my odometer reading. Any advice on which direction to move towards?

Thanks!

Check fuses #8 and #18, they power the PSOM(speedometer/odo). Also check your dome light, they melt over the years and short out blowing one of those fuses.

Check Fuse 18. It supplies power to the PSOM, and other circuits, with the key in the Run position. A dead PSOM supplies no vehicle speed input to the computer therefore the computer (PCM) jacks the pressure up as part of limp mode operation.

edit: Fuse 8 supplies trip odometer keep alive power. If it is dead, it has no effect on the speedometer/odometer display.. You will lose your trip odometer data each time you shut off the vehicle.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, all my fuses are good, unfortunately. Would a bad VSS cause the odometer to stop showing due to the circuit not being closed or something? Or you think I am probably looking at a PSOM..... If that's the case, can we even buy that part out there anymore? Thanks!

Thanks rla2005 & eddiec. I went back and checked the fusebox again. Sure enough fuse 8 was bad. I can't believe that cut power to the PSOM lol. And sure enough, my center dome light bulb was getting way too hot. Replaced it with an LED one. All good now. Appreciate the help!!

Good to hear you got it fixed!
Yea, that is one of Ford's not so great thinking there with a dome light blows a fuse, which then kills the PSOM, which then causes hard shifting of the E4OD transmission.... just wonder how many needless transmission rebuild were done due to that.
