Looks like no one has had this problem before. If I change the odometer what is the chance that the error message will come back?? I fixed the reason it came up I think. The guy I got the truck from had put a wire in the fuse box and put an extra fuse in there to kill the power from the computer. ( he said to help the truck shift into overdrive ) I think to kill the milage.Anyway I did away with the wire and the fuse. Now I just need to get rid off the error to take the thing thru emissions.
What do you think???
Unfortunately, you are unclear as to what code, and what the problem is.
For any speed input (VSS) or odometer related issue, running extra wires and switches is absolutely NOT the answer.
What year truck do you have?
If its a 92-96 truck, your odometer is digital, and the speedometer looks analog, but actually is a digitally controlled needle. Inside the cluster is a PSOM module (little circuit board attached to the speedo and odo) that takes the speed input (pulses per mile) from the Anti-lock brake system, and feeds it to the ECM. If its not working, or there is a wiring issue, the ECM has no idea how fast you are going, therefore cannot understand "load" and "hills" and compensate according, and spits codes on the later trucks. The earlier trucks don't spit anything, they just run like crap.
Does your speedometer needle move? What year truck?
