2013 6.7 Coolant Leaking

Hi All,

New to this forum and new to the Ford Diesels. 2013 f350 6.7 W/ 146,000 miles. While installing some tow hooks for my aftermarket bumper I noticed some coolant leaking. This is the first time I noticed it and I imagine it's new because the reservoir container is sufficient level. I put a bucket underneath overnight (so cats wouldn't be tempted) and it didn't leak, it only leaks after driving it. The motor was in need of a good wash anyway so I did that for starters. I'm completely new to these motors and only have a moderate mechanical aptitude. I took some pictures from underneath and above. The best place I could identify it puddling is directly below the black plastic what I believe to be an upper intake manifold? I read others' issues about dripping near the bell housing which is too far towards the rear. If you were to measure from the front of the motor near the fan, I would say the leak is ending just 3-4 inches towards the rear. I know it had a transmission cooling line replaced a couple hundred miles ago, but don't know if that is relevant based on where the leak is and the puddle. I tried my best to capture photo's to help you get a perspective.

What do I need to remove to gain better access to the shallow pool of coolant outside of the black plastic thing? Are there common failures in this area? My assumption is it must be like a water pump or something based on location, but again very difficult to tell. They crammed a whole lot of motor in that bay, not the most inviting for a weekend wrencher. .

Thanks in advance for all of your efforts, and if it's a relatively straightforward and not ultra invasive job I will tackle it myself. Mostly I lack confidence when dealing with mechanical projects, but I'm eager to learn more about the truck.

Shine a light down the valley of the motor.
I could just be the turbo coolant lines.

Another place is the radiator. Best place to look for that leak would be the drivers side wheel well.

Yes, thank you, It looks like it's the turbo cooling fitting.

I suppose, but being brand new to this truck, it's a little intimidating I must admit.

Update:
When I removed the intake manifold I was horrified to discover a huge puddle of water, but forgot that I washed the motor and it all just pooled there because I never drove it after, lol. Anyway, because of the water pooling and strange saturation of insulation looking fabric, I was unable to determine if there is a tell-tale sign of the turbo coolant line actually leaking, but since I went through the effort of gaining access I ordered the line and the oil line as well from my local Ford parts which never seems to have anything on the shelf. I did find a suspect area at the upper radiator hose which is leaking and may have been my issue from the beginning which just displays how mechanically ignorant I am going this invasive for something which may have required minimal work, but I guess preventative maintenance is good no matter what. I ordered all the parts and the radiator hose at $127 (hose alone) I found out that the hose has O-ring seals at the connection sites, so I'll be promptly returning that hose for just the suspect seal:

While I wait for parts I am curious about the following: I intend to clean my throttle body intake as it is caked. Any special procedures for the cleaning? The throttle body little circular disc (sorry for the bad terminology) and special care there? I don't want to heavily scrub something which has a sensitive tolerance.
-Does the plastic intake manifold have a torque spec?
-Also, the EGR intermediate pipe you must remove to do this project has metal gaskets, are these reusable or no? I tried to order new ones I can tell the Ford parts guy may have ordered the wrong thing. So just curious.
-Still waiting on the actual lines, and am curious about torque specs here? This is my main concern, I know how to use tools but don't have the confidence to know for sure something it tightened correctly, etc. It looks to be a standard open end 19MM type of nut. Am I over thinking it? That little black cap thing, is that significant? I would just hate to put this all together and have it fail because of my inexperience.

Thanks

just use some cleaner like you always would for the throttle body.

I would not reuse any of the gaskets.

I got a bag of parts from the dealer and am not sure if I got enough. Is the green highlighted part replaced or not? I got 2 fittings, and I thought I needed 3.
Also do upper intake gaskets need to be replaced? I ask parts guy and he supplied like 40% of what is actually there so now that I don't even have the full set do I bother changing any, and any torque specs on this stuff?

The fitting I got were the ones that go above the turbo if that makes sense and are smaller in size than the green circled fitting.

As far as you have dug into that engine you need to get the service manual for proper torque during reassembly.

Not a bad idea. I have always used the Chilton Online database for my repair needs with great success, but this time around with this truck I am finding a lot of absent info. Even the guy at Ford printed out his 10 pages of spec info for this truck and there were only specs for about 3 dozen things, and not what I was looking for.
