Oil change question.

Ok so I’ve read all the threads on oil changes. I can’t seem to find a reputable synthetic brand that is ford approved. I am looking for full synthetic, 2017 6.8.

note: I’ve tried opening the pdf for ford approved but it’s not opening on my phone or my wife’s phone.

What is everyone using? I’m in a Greenville SC out of the snow belt! I run 5w30 Mobil 1 extended performance in our 2013 explorer sport and this is the first Diesel I have ever owned. I just want to take good care of it!

I assume you mean the 6.7 Powerstroke diesel and just typo on the 6.8
A lot of people run full synthetic oils, including myself.

Some of the popular ones are Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme 5W40 and Shell Rotella T6 5W40. Both are on the approved list.

I run the Valvoline PBE and it's on sale at Napa right now for $19.99/gal.

There's a bunch of others and I'm sure people will chime in. Everyone has a favorite.

I use Rotella T6 5w-40. It's also in the WSS-M2C171-F1 document.

The URL gets updated so that's what folks need to use, which it was two days ago. I've also attached it here in case that'll help download to your phone.

Yes! 6.7L sorry guys. My excursion had a 6.8. My apologies. For some darn reason that page will not load for me. I’ve tried on my phone, iPad, and my wife’s iPhone. Arg.

So t-6 is on this approved list? I am by no means an expert on oils. Is 5w40 okay to use in the summer heat here in S.C., GA and Fl?

are there any benefits between 10w30 and 5w40? I would assume that 5w pours better in colder temps...

i ran 5w30 in the 6.8 because of cold start ups when we lived in Massachusetts. We still do drive back and forth.

I'll help you out since you are out of town and the PDF is not working for you. Here is a snip of all the approved 5w40 approved oils from the PDF link above. I recommend the Valvoline PBX or the Rotella T6 both are easy to find at local auto part stores.

Thanks guys! As I said I’m used to gas, and have used 5w30 for ever. Easy choice. Wife picked out the f250, it’s her daily, lol, and it’s our tow vehicle. Thanks for posting the screenshot. Rotella it is!

Im shocked Amsoil isn’t on that list.

No worries. We all do that.

T6 is a good oil. 5w40 is for severe duty and is what I follow for towing and also the tempature swings we have here. Don’t have to worry about It turning into molasses like 15w40 does in below freezing temps. Also running 5w40 you don’t need to change weights between summer and winter. It’s good for -20 to over 100.

I run the T6 all year. If you decide Shell, they have a 2018 promotion to consider. I normally lack the patience for rebates but it was easy, especially if everyone is charging full price for it at the moment.
