okay guys I usually am in the obs form but I’m in process of opening small business and the e99 rollback that came with motor finally craped out. It has horrible blow by smokes constantly and literally blows some rings out oil cap I acquired a 02 7.3 motor with little over 100,000 miles on it very reasonably. I’ve also got a rebuilt stock turbo ready for it to but here’s where my question lies. I’m going to drop stage 1s in and valve 910 valve springs and pushrods and was thinking about a stage 1 cam. Due to bringing power band down which would definitely help this truck. Would you guys recommend this or use money towards doing diy t4 setup. Plan on using this truck for long time to come so all advice is welcome.
Most of what you said is over my head, but I've been looking for a step by step (bolt by bolt?) engine swap thread forever. When you get down to it if you take a ton of pics that'd be great
If you are thinking about a T4, then that is the right call. I have recently bought a T4/SX-E setup (turbo will be here today...) and feel that is the best bet for our trucks in regards to clean and efficient power. It will be much better than anything OEM can provide, hands down.
There are a few threads around here focused on the 364.5 and 366 SX-E turbos that you may want to give a read.
I don't think the cam will help much. You already have 4.88 gears. Now the air, like Sous mentioned will give you more bang for the buck. With stage 1's, I bet you will be really happy.
Yeah I’m really leaning towards just sticking with a t4 setup we actually built our own diy t4 setup with a sxe 369 for my brothers e99 crew cab it currently has stage ones that are most likely going into this truck as he’s probably going to stage 2s. But man it really cleaned up the smoke on his truck and does great. Also I will be using a 2 post lift and lifting cab to swap motor when that time rolls around so I’ll get plenty of detailing pics for you guys.
Well picked up a harbour freight engine stand today once I get the engine job that’s in my shop done I’ll be getting the good motor put on the stand and tore down. I’ll start taking pics as soon as progress begins.
Well if you ever plan on going to ELC coolant in that E99 you'll have to do cups first anyways. If you plan on using SCA coolant forever you could just let sleeping dogs lie

Which one did you get? Did you get the big one that has 6 rollers or the smaller one. I had a smaller one but didn’t truck it and went with the bigger one.

Are the newer cups coated differently then the old to handle the ELC coolant? Just curious of the difference. I think the idea of the red ELC I ran in my 6.4 but changing all that stuff is gonna keep me away from it in my E99 if that’s the case.

The issue is that the sealant that they used to use to seal the cups in the block was not compatible with ELC and the ELC would deteriorate it. Use modern loctite green and the problem is solved.
Engine stand is the 2000 pound one from harbour freight. Also the replacement motor is a 02 engine has pmr rods but I think that’ll be fine due to I don’t have any high horsepower goals for this truck.
Well just thought I’d post some pics of the t4 mount I built the beginning of the year plan on building similar setup for this truck except where probably just gonna run a s366
