They go through metal clips. The number 8 is still working fine. Would like a longer one though. There's a good hardware store in the next town it's a 50 mile round trip but next time I'm there I'll check their fabulous fastener supply. I only need three. If I strike out I'll probably get the 25 pack on ebay. For now the dash is held with the shorties.

I found the screw on the left was used on the main dash like across the bottom, ash tray assy., glove box area.
The screw on the right were for the kick panels down by your feet left & right, under the dash. Non-AC trucks have the vents there, AC trucks just a solid panel with a blank off plate behind the plastic part.
They were also used for the "A" pillar plastic and think the seat belt plastics.
I cant remember now, been years since I took mine apart, but may have also been used for the sun visors?
Some of the screws could be long or short depending on area used but I am not sure on that so if you go hunting for used keep that in mind.
BTW the 1 on the left are also used in my 70 AMC Javelin on the dash bottom & glove box just not a long IIRC.
