Need Help Removing Dash Panel & Finding 12 Volt Access

I am installing a CB Radio in my 2000 F-150. I want to thru-bolt the mounting bracket to the dash panel directly under the twin 12 volt outlets on the right side of the steering wheel. How do I remove that panel? I have removed the screw at the bottom ant the ones to either side, but something else is holding it.

Once I have the panel removed, what is the most convenient “always on” 12 volt source I can hook into to power the radio? The 12 volt outlets are just above the panel, but is that wiring easy to get at and splice into?

Thanks for the help

Hi chilibill and welcome to FTE

Which panel are you trying to remove?
The panel around the radio and heater controls just pulls off. You can grab onto it by the insides of the vent holes and just pull.
The big panel that is around that and over the instrument cluster is held on by screws behind the radio panel and behind the panel over the steering column. That just pulls straight off to get at the screws behind it.
The wiring to the power point and lighter should be easy to get at and is a good place for you to tap into.
If you need any more details feel free to ask

Dash Panel Removal

Dave,

Thanks for your prompt reply. The panel I want to remove is the center panel above the transmission hump. Just above the hump is what looks to be the heater. The panel I want to remove is just above that. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think you're talking about the big panel that I mentioned above.
Pull out the radio panel and the cover over the top of the steering column and you should be able to figure it out from there

Dave,

Thanks for the advice. I'll try it tomorrow.
