Panel removal

I plan on installing a compact CB radio in the cubby hole below the SYNC panel in my '12 F150. Can anyone guide me through the steps to remove this panel to gain access on the back side?

Also, how do I remove the rear seat back. I have the supercab, and am hoping I can find a plug back there to run some coax through.

Just pull, it will snap out. Also the plastic under that piece snaps in to. It gives your a little more room to run wires. We just installed some switches for Rigid led lights on the plastic piece below the cubby on my brothers truck. I have a supercrew so im not sure how the rear seats in your truck fold down. Someone else on here can answer that for you.

Thanks for replying. I'd like to remove the whole panel that the SYNC panel snaps into. It looks like maybe two screws under the rubber mat in front of my display? Then snap out the whole panel? I guess I wasn't real clear, my bad.

Oh yeah. Mines an XLT.

2 screws under the mat, 1 behind the sync connection, then it should snap off. Work from bottom to top and it snaps in behind the panels on each side. Snap then loose also. You don't have to remove then completely. Just enough to get the center panel out

Shouldn't the seat back be the same latch in a SCrew? I thought I had a link saved but it disappeared. Let me look...

just curious as to where you are going to mount your antenna. Mine is mounted in the stake pocket closest to the cab.

here are some pics of how i ran my cable.
i ran it from the center dash to near the E brake, and then removed the cover by the rocker panel. There was a small black plug near the rear of this trough that wasn't being used. I turned it into a grommet to keep the cable from chaffing. I then used some wire loom to protect it where it is exposed outside of the cab. Then it was ran between the inner and outer fender to the stake pocket.

Hope this helps,

Q.

I wound up using a Wilson, LilWill, baseloaded magnet mount on rear centre of the roof. I ran the coax down and through the left rear door, under my husky liners, and in behind the radio. This turns out to be a decent setup for me. The antenna is properly mounted in the centre of the truck, plus, when I get into low overhead places, I just take the whole thing and stick it in the backseat. As long as I remount it in the same spot, it doesn't screwup my SWR's.
Since no one uses the rear seats, I'm not worried about crushing the coax. I ran temporary routings like that in many big trucks that I slipseated, and my coax for that antenna is still good.

if it works it works... I wish i would have added a 4" spring to the base of mine, as i have almost ripped it off a few times when i try to pull the truck into the garage.

I had a mount I adapted for use on my SD with the Dumbo mirrors. It was a clampon mount that I just used some longer stainless nuts and bolts, to clamp around the mirror arm on the left side, grounded it with some #12 wire, and ran it into the cab. I used a "Firestick" on it, and later a stock antenna from a Freightliner, both similar to what you have. I tried the spring mount, but the antenna would move too much, at speed, the thing would bend backwards about 45 degrees, so I just didn't use it. That mount setup was on that truck a good 10 ten years. I only took it off because I sold the truck, and the mount, antenna, and all, is out in the barn as I speak.
Maybe a spring on yours would work better than mine did since yours is somewhat shielded from the wind.

No problem. That's the way things go in some threads, that's how we talk in real life isn't it?

hmm... maybe i shouldn't add a spring. I know i'm somewhat shielded by the cab, but don't know if i want to risk that kind of deflection to my antenna.

thanks for the input.

Ya, I don't think I would either, it just might swing back into your paint on the back of the cab. I won't even let people lay, or rub their hands on my paint, and I'd be paranoid about the antenna hitting it. I guess that's part of the OCD side of me. LOL.
