good day, all
The old 2005 STX has some peeling paint on the hood. Exposed primer looks good and the spots are 2 to 4 sq. inches. Any tips on touching it up and blending into the good paint? It's color code YN and I see there are kits of color and clear coat for 40 to 50 bucks. Anyone have a recommendation for brand?
One of them is: https://touchupdirect.com/touch-up-paint/?tud_type=2&tud_brand=21&tud_model=2202&tud_year=2 005
I think your going to have trouble blending in paint on an area 4 sq inches........ especially on the hood that stands out so much... if you try, you need to feather the edge of the exposed area with 600 grit wet/ sand paper. Use water to help wash and clean the area while sanding. I think I might try cutting a circle or something on a piece of paper and lay it over the area so when you spray you don't get any overspray. You might have to lightly sand the entire hood ( not thru the clear) before you spray a final coat of clear over the entire hood........ im not sure you could blend the clear.
Silver metallic (yn) are some of the hardest paints to blend. Have to checked a one day paint type place on just repainting the whole hood? A blend job on a silver metallic is a tough job even for a decent painter, it will mostly stand out.
Thanks, Steve and Gary
I was planning on the 600 grit wet sanding and masking around the two areas. Glad to get confirmation on that. Clear coat the entire hood? Interesting idea. I'm not sure I am that determined.
As you probably know: this being California the paint shop idea was pretty expensive. Miracle wanted $750 for the hood if I pull it off myself. Even if I shopped around and got it down to $500 I don't think I'd spend that. But I'll keep that in mind. If the $60 paint kit doesn't come out passable I can go for the whole hood. I go to Minden, Nevada once in a while. Maybe I'll get a quote over there.
