My 1989 Bronco paint on the hood (silver) is real dull the rest of the truck looks pretty good tried using rubbing compound it did take some of the dead paint off but when I try to wax it after I rub it down it shows bad wax streaks that just don't seem to want to come out. I just can't seem to get it to shine at all anyone got any suggestions if I can get the hood to halfway shine she'd look good. Thanks Guys
i heard once that simple green will take off oxidation you might try it on a small area full strength. i honestly do not know if it works just read it on a web site or magazine but what have you got too lose by trying.
What you are looking at is your hood has oxidation. If you are using a pure Rubbing Compound it will dull your paint no matter what wax you use. What you have to do is use a polish to brighten your paint again and then wax. For oxidized paint here is my routine for clients vehicles:
1) Wash / Dry
2) SSR3 ( Pretty abrasive polish but just below rubbing compound ) ( Also apply by machine .. doing this by hand wont accomplish much to be honest )
3) SSR2 ( Medium polish that will bring your paint back )
(3) Sub SSR2 with the Polish with Carnauba if you want)
4) Top it with EX Sealant
The product I use is from Poorboys and is very easy to use. What product are you using? If you are using Meguiar's, try to pick up some #9 or #7 .... actually both The #9 will take out minor scratches and swirls while enhancing your paint. The #7, will replenish your paint and give it a nice wet look. Top that off with your favorite wax and you are set.
If it's oxidized then try Dri Wash 'N Guard. It's a waterless car wash/ glaze, but also works really well on oxidzed finishes. You can only get it on the internet- do a Google or Yahoo search and type in "waterless car wash."
