Maybe someone has had this problem or knows what it may be. When I start to drive my 93 BRONCO the speedometer jumps or stays at zero, it shifts hard, after a few miles it quits and all is fine. My ABS light is on all the time also. Thanks
Actually, the very same thing is happening to my 92' bronco and just today I went to a junk yard to purchase an instrument cluster. I did some research and it seems that this is sometimes misdiagnosed as a bad abs module. I scanned the obd and the only code it came up with was a poor signal from the vss in the tranny. I will install it tonight and hopefully that will be the end of that... oh by the way, I got the cluster for $100.00 in pretty good condition compared to $600.00 at the dealership as a special order part. I will let you know if it worked.
oh, and just in case you are curious about why the cluster, its because the programable speedometer/odometer module (PSOM)is intergrated with the cluster. The dss in the rear diff sends to psom, psom then send to abs module and to vss in trany. that is why tranny is acting up and why your abs light is on.
well it seems I was misinformed... I replaced the cluster and the abs light is still on, the speedometer doesn't work and the transmission is shifting rough... I will replace the vss today and if that doesn't fix it then I will replace the abs speed sensor in the diff. The only thing to do if all else fails will be to replace the abs module. I will keep you posted.
It is going to be the VSS! I had the exact problems untill I changed mine. Then I shifted smoothly (When I had the auto) and abd speedo worked! The abs thing, well it is pretty common and some ont agree with my way of fixing it, but it still stops. I just pulled out the abs bulb. Plus I dont even have factory axles under it anymore, so there was really nothing else i could do to fix it.
okay, I just went to the auto parts store and asked for the vss. They tried to give me a sensor that goes to the tranny with a socket for a speedometer cable.... the intstrument cluster doesnt use a cable, and neither does the e4od for that matter... it doesnt use one.. it is all digital. It took me awhile before I realized and asked for the abs speed sensor instead. I will install it tonight, and will cross my fingers...
Okay same problem, they tried to give me a speed sensor with speedometer cable. I have ordered the other one. I still haven't found the thing yet on the Bronco, 93 5.0 cruise control. automatic. Anyone know exactly where that bugger is.
Well I replaced the abs sensor and it seems that it was part of the problem. When I took the old one out it was broken, part of the tip had been chipped out... by what is anybody's guess. I took it for a spin and the transmission shifts smooth BUT the Speedometer starts to jump from 40 to 70 mph range and the ABS light comes on soon after it starts jumping. Let me know if you encounter the same problem when you change yours, its located on the rear differential housing, top right looking at it from the driveshaft side. I am going to open up the differential tonight and see whats a muck. Hopefully cleaning it out and pouring some oil will fix it... I sure don't want to see any broken parts!
