'95 Explorer speedometer jumping

I recently posted a thread concerning my speedometer jumping and transmission problems...it was shifting hard (I have an automatic) and was told to change the Vehicle Speed Sensor, which I did and it fixed the transmission problem but my speedometer still jumps slightly.

Any ideas on this?

'95 Explorer speedometer jumping

My 94 Ex did that. The dealer replaced the speedo under warranty. From what I've read, that is one of the common problems of the Explorers.

yeah I had a 94 and it did the same thing, and now it does that in my 91 Ranger, if i go over 70 it jumps up and down, I think i might have to replace it. Did it fix ur problem?

Yes, replacing the speedometer assembly fixed the erratic needle. The problem did come back later, much later. The warranty was over so I just ignored it. I had over 60,000 on the new speedometer by the time the needle started jumping again. And it was only when I went over 80 mph.
