Transmission wont go (FIXED, it will now!)

no idea here, moved it today to check a few things, everything was normal. forward, reverse no problem

now 7 hours later only Reverse and 1st?????? 2, OD = nothing, its like its in neutral. Rev it up and as rpm drops it lurches briefly but not as rpms go up??????

wtf, did my trans just die in my driveway 2 days before my roadtrip?

I have a p0500 VSS code, wtf

edit: got code cleared then pulled sensor in rear dif, looks to be ok. No more codes, but still no OD w/o a lot of slipping (3000rpm ish) 2nd kinda works but not great. So still pretty much R &1

It's possible that the feedbolts have loosened and are leaking pressure. Revving to 3000 RPM to get it to move pretty much guarantees that you've now wiped out a clutch. I expect that at this point it needs to be rebuilt.

If you're somewhat handy you could remove the pan and the main valve body. Under the valve body are three bolts that take pressure from the valve body and send it to the clutches. I don't know if this is going to fix this, and after the 3000 RPM punishment I'm not very hopeful it can be saved.

The P0500 code is a byproduct of this problem. You can ignore it. I do wonder how you know the speed sensor is good internally by looking at it.

i meant it just looked normal, wires looked good etc. no weird damage etc.

i am fairly handy, there isn't much I can't or am not willing to do. if the bolts are loose how much time does that buy? there is no way i will get this done before sunday however so we are probably driving the Odyssey instead

I only rev'd it to 3000 to see if or when it would start moving 1x, i didn't actually start to drive it after this. i drove it around a bit in 1st, tried to manually shift to 2nd and it seemed to kinda work but went back to 1st and got home. total trip was about 8 blocks.

really makes no sense to me how it has been fine, then all of a sudden it dies

3000 RPM slip across a clutch can make enough heat to totally burn it up and warp the steel separator plates in 1-2 seconds. Were you above that for longer than a second or two?

Nowhere in our specifications for transmission requirements do I remember a section where we were required to provide notice if a part were going to break.

I have very little confidence that even if the bolts are loose that tightening the at this point will get you a working transmission. I'm afraid it''s toast. Drive the Odeyssy

thats the plan, park the excursion in the garage for now. Drop pan and valve body when i get home and look. If bolts are loose at least maybe i can get it to a shop since i live 40 miles out of a major town in a much smaller town.

I didnt time how long i rev'd it up, but I didn't dwell there. Was overall very quick.

I found a 2000 4r100 w/ 51k from a f450 sitting in a warehouse for 800.00 50 miles from me, not sure if that woild be a wise move or just get mine rebuilt?

Well, drained nearly 4 gallons of fluid and dropped pan. Fluid is dark red not brown or black and smells like trans fluid not burnt, no particles in oil.

Inside pan and and magnet are nearly spotless and no metal anywhere

plan to drop valve bodies tonight and see what I can see, I ordered new center support bolts just in case. Crossing my fingers, even if it isn't a permanent fix and lasts through the winter i will be estactic

As suspected, forward clutch feed bolt is loose. Got new bolts today for all 3 and a superior shift kit to install. Hopefully it works, if not i know what's next
