AWD transmission compatibility
For the AWD aeros... From the research I did, a 91 transmission will not work in a 95. I’m looking to know if this definitive or if there is a way around this. Reason being I came across a (basically) new high end rebuild of a trans from a 91. My van is a 95 and the trans is still going but slowly starting to wear out.

do you have a vacuum modulator sticking out the passenger side of your tranny? if so, A4LD, which in 1995 V6 4.0L had many HD OEM upgrades over the years to take the torque of the 4.0L Cologne engine. tranny rated for approx 400lbs ft of torque after torque amplification of the motor torque by the TC. All shifts controlled mechanically by slider valves internally in tranny.
My '96 has the 4R55E with AWD 4.0L. all electronic shifts controlled by the PCM switching expensive solenoids in tranny.

Yes, A4LD for sure. I thought all 95 model year have the A4LD? I haven’t seen any cutoff dates when searching for 95 Aero A4LD transmissions.
If the reason 90-91 A4LD are not compatible with 92-95 is they are too weak, that shouldn’t be a issue with the A4LD I found. Although out of a 91, the rebuild was over $3K and done by a highly skilled rebuilder. He used heavy duty parts and did all the upgrades/modifications.
What I’m curious about is why 90-91 isn’t compatible with 92-95. Anybody have ideas?

im probably wrong but i think the 1991 trans was all internally controlled except the lock up converter.so it should work in a later van not hooking any wires except the lock up converter wires.the check engine light will probably stay on.oh and the speedo won't work.
